Sponsor a Birthday Celebration for a Child in Ukraine

Every child deserves to feel celebrated on their birthday — especially children facing serious illness, displacement, and the daily realities of war. Through our birthday program, The Henry Project helps create joyful, personalized celebrations filled with cake, gifts, laughter, and care.

A birthday can become a moment of hope

What began as our Sponsor a Cake program at The Dacha Centre in Lviv has grown into something bigger. Today, we are working to provide complete birthday celebrations that help children feel seen, valued, and loved on their special day.

What your support can provide

Each celebration is shaped around the child, their age, their interests, and what will make the day feel special.

A personalized cake

A birthday cake made with care, often customized around the child’s favourite colours, characters, or interests.

Birthday gifts

Thoughtful presents chosen for the child, helping them feel remembered and celebrated.

Decorations & supplies

Balloons, candles, plates, decorations, and the small details that turn a room into a party.

Shared celebration

A moment for family members, other children, staff, and volunteers to gather together.

Activities & treats

Pizza, crafts, games, or other simple activities that bring children together in joy.

Updates for donors

When appropriate and with permission, we share photos and updates so donors can see the impact they helped create.

Where the program began

Our birthday celebrations began through our partnership with The Dacha Centre in Lviv, a home away from home for children with cancer and their families while they undergo treatment.

At Dacha, families are carrying so much. A birthday celebration offers a chance to pause, gather together, and create a happy memory during an incredibly difficult chapter.

Growing beyond one location

As this program grows, The Henry Project hopes to bring birthday celebrations to more children across Ukraine, including children in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, shelters, and community spaces.

The goal is simple: to make sure children facing hardship still have moments where they feel like children — celebrated, loved, and surrounded by care.

More than a birthday party

For children undergoing treatment or living through the effects of war, birthdays can easily be overshadowed by hospitals, uncertainty, and fear. A celebration may seem simple, but these moments matter deeply.

A cake, a wrapped gift, a candle, a song, and a room filled with laughter can remind a child and their family that they are not forgotten.

Handcrafted with Care

Each cake is lovingly prepared by Nazar Dumych, our Ukrainian Director at The Henry Project, who is also a professional pastry chef. Nazar puts his heart and skill into every cake, ensuring that every child feels celebrated and cherished on their special day.

Your gift is more than a cake — it’s a reminder to a child that they are seen, loved, and never alone.
