A Day of Connection in Kharkiv with Ukrainian Zion

The Henry Project visited Kharkiv, a city that faces daily air alarms and drone strikes but continues to stand with quiet, determined strength. In the middle of this reality, we had the opportunity to spend the day with Ukrainian Zion, a local NGO founded by Andre, who has been working tirelessly to support his community since the full-scale invasion began.

Andre and his team have built something important here — not just through humanitarian aid, but by creating spaces where children and families can find moments of normalcy, connection, and relief. One of those spaces is their Family Day program, and we were grateful to be a part of it once again.

We brought cookies and set up a decorating workshop for the kids. It was simple: tables filled with frosting, decorations, and blank cookies waiting to be brought to life. The children threw themselves into the activity with focus and energy. For a few hours, alarms and uncertainty faded into the background, replaced by creativity, laughter, and conversation.

It may seem small — a few cookies, a few hours — but here, even small moments matter. Being able to create, to laugh, and to feel seen makes a difference in places that carry so much weight day after day.

We’re proud to stand alongside Andre and Ukrainian Zion, supporting the work they do and learning from their example of steady, quiet resilience.

Kharkiv doesn’t make headlines every day anymore, but the need remains. And so does the strength. We’re committed to being here for it — for the hard days, the good moments, and everything in between.
